THE YORKSHIRE WOLDS WAY 9 - 12 Dec 2009

After my day off in Filey I set off on the shorter (78 miles) Yorkshire Wolds Way. The terrain was much easier than the Cleveland Way and the weather stayed nice pretty much throughout.
It would be fair to say there isn't much sticks in my mind about this walk although that's not a bad thing! Having lived in nearby York in the past I had never really appreciated the rolling countryside of the Wolds and it was nice to idly bimble along through it after the mud, cliffs and rain of the previous few days.
The trail took me past RAF Staxton Wold, an Air Defence Radar Site - it looked like a very sleepy hollow and perhaps even a little more isolated from civilisation than RAF Mount Pleasant in the Falklands. Having done my flying training in this area 20 odd years ago I did now notice the almost continual drone of the RAF Tucano training aircraft flying overhead. There was also the odd low level Tornado to liven things up a bit.
The trail wound it's way gently down to the Humber and into Hull from where I eventually caught the train back down south again.
I must just say hello to the motorcycling folk I met at the Seaways cafe in Fridaythorpe; and yes, I did make it to the Humber.
